Our Curriculum

In the Art of Peace Club we examine all manner of social and emotional pressures carefully, because we know that by understanding the very nature of our conflicts (and ourselves) we can more successfully mitigate personal risk and prevent unintended or undesired consequences with our words and actions. We build protective factors and capacity, focusing on self-and-situational awareness by thinking critically and strategically, and learning how to identify and manage strong emotions and expectations. We believe that social outcomes are as important as academic outcomes!

We think, learn, and practice peace:

  • We problem-solve through de-construction and media literacy skills; we learn and practice civics and ethics for this digital age.

  • We build interpersonal skills through fun and engaging, relevant and actionable real-life storytelling, as well as through the prism of pop culture and current events.

  • We promote diversity of thought, acceptance and collaboration as core values, providing preventive social instruction with proven positive impact.

We build the ‘intangibles!’

  • Help children to recognize and prevent conflicts before they occur.

  • Peacefully and quickly resolve conflicts when they do arise.

  • Manage one’s defenses and emotions.

  • Act with courage, intelligence and benevolence in adversarial situations.

  • Build and maintain healthy relationships and boundaries.

  • Convert potential enemies into allies.

  • Advocate more successfully for oneself and others.

  • Strengthen our citizenry through ethical social and civic interaction.
