Meet Jodi Wing

A decade ago change agent and author Jodi Wing had a vision for adapting the Art of War philosophies to create modern-day lessons in peace. Understanding that conflict is inevitable, she recognized how critical it is to teach our children strategies and coping mechanisms for how to manage conflict themselves.

Jodi adapted Sun Tzu’s principles into a practice-based curricula and workshop series for children 7-17 years of age to bolster traditional academic programs with social and emotional learning skills for conflict resolution emphasizing civics and ethics education for in-school and after-school programming.

Jodi’s work began in 2010 in Los Angeles classrooms, educating elementary-aged students in the Art of Peace through iterative discussion, role-play and workshops. Over time the program expanded to include children in middle- and high schools. Initially girl-serving, in 2014 new curricula and workshops were launched, designed specifically to meet the social and emotional needs of boys.

Jodi is the 2018 recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, which has been the principal means for the FBI to publicly recognize achievements of individuals and organizations that make extraordinary contributions to education and the prevention of crime and violence in their communities. Jodi’s goal is to strengthen our citizenry by scaling this model of preventive thought leadership to impact and benefit more students, parents and educators.
